The Books of Samuel

The books of the Old Testament are the Scriptures that Jesus and the apostles used. Its stories, songs, laws, and prophecies were the grand narrative that shaped the context of their daily lives. It was God’s Word to them. It is also God’s message to us today.

The books of Samuel narrate the theological history of Samuel the prophet and the first two kings of Israel in Saul and David. These stories are full of lessons and insights for what it means to please God, to follow Him, and to be the kind of people he desires us to be in his world. It also teaches us about the kind of leader God favors.

It is a joy to bring these previously unpublished notes to you in the form of an Old Testament commentary. As always, Kevin Conner’s approach is one of preparing ‘seed for the sower and bread for the eater’ (2 Corinthians 9:10). You will find food for your soul here but also many seed thoughts and ideas that can be further developed into helpful truths and insights about God and his purposes for you, the church, and God’s world.
